Formalities and visa<\/h2>\n

Do I need a visa to travel to Armenia?<\/h3>\n

No, for most of our travellers. Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland and Canada are exempt from a visa for a stay of up to 180 days within a one-year period: a valid passport is enough. Other nationalities can obtain an electronic visa on the official site evisa.mfa.am<\/a> or, in some cases, on arrival at the airport. Source: France Diplomatie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What passport validity is required?<\/h3>\n

France Diplomatie recommends a passport valid for at least three months beyond the planned end date of the stay. Also check that the passport has a blank page for the entry stamp.<\/p>\n

Can Armenia be combined with Georgia or Azerbaijan?<\/h3>\n

Yes, it is one of our specialities. Armenia and Georgia are easily combined: a 30 to 45-minute Yerevan-Tbilisi flight, train or road (we adapt road itineraries to the official recommendations in force). However, the land border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is closed: a combination with Azerbaijan must go through Georgia. Flights and access<\/h2>\n

Are there direct flights between Paris and Yerevan?<\/h3>\n

Yes. In 2026, several airlines connect Paris to Yerevan (Zvartnots Airport) directly, including Air France from Paris-CDG, Transavia from Paris-Orly, as well as FlyOne Armenia and Wizz Air. Direct flight duration: about 4h30. As routes change each season, check the flight schedules at the time of booking.<\/p>\n

How can I reach Armenia from Switzerland or Belgium?<\/h3>\n

From Geneva, Zurich or Brussels, connections are made via the major European hubs: Vienna (Austrian Airlines), Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Amsterdam (KLM) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). Allow around 6h30 to 8h of total travel time depending on the connection. We advise our clients on the best options according to the departure date.<\/p>\n

What is the time difference with France?<\/h3>\n

Armenia is on GMT+4 all year round. The difference with Paris is +3 hours in winter and +2 hours in summer.<\/p>\n

When to go<\/h2>\n

What is the best time to visit Armenia?<\/h3>\n

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September-October) are ideal: pleasant temperatures of 20 to 28\u00b0C, lush vegetation in spring, spectacular colours in autumn. Summer is hot in Yerevan (sometimes over 35\u00b0C) but remains pleasant in the mountains, where many sites are located.<\/p>\n

Can I travel to Armenia in winter?<\/h3>\n

Yes. Winter offers the sight of snow-covered monasteries, a lively capital and the chance to ski at Tsaghkadzor, about an hour from Yerevan. It is also a good season for a city break in Yerevan, with lower rates.<\/p>\n

Safety and health<\/h2>\n

Is Armenia a safe country for tourists?<\/h3>\n

Armenia is generally a safe and welcoming country, and Yerevan a peaceful capital. The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs nonetheless formally advises against the areas bordering Azerbaijan and advises against the Syunik province except for imperative reasons; the rest of the country is classified under heightened vigilance. Are any vaccinations mandatory?<\/h3>\n

No specific vaccination is required to enter Armenia. It is recommended to be up to date with universal vaccinations and, depending on the case, hepatitis A and typhoid. Consult your doctor or the Health section of France Diplomatie before departure.<\/p>\n

Can I drink tap water?<\/h3>\n

Tap water is generally drinkable in Yerevan, where the public spring-water fountains (the “pulpulak”) are part of the landscape. In rural areas, bottled water is advisable.<\/p>\n

Can I drive myself in Armenia?<\/h3>\n

It is possible with an international driving permit, but the country is mountainous: winding roads, sometimes poor conditions, animals or pedestrians on the roadway. The French authorities recommend avoiding driving at night outside cities. This is why all our tours include a vehicle with a professional driver, from minivan to touring coach.<\/p>\n

Money and practical life<\/h2>\n

What is Armenia’s currency? Are bank cards accepted?<\/h3>\n

The currency is the Armenian dram (AMD); 1 euro is worth about 420 drams (indicative rate, to be checked before departure). Bank cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops in Yerevan, and ATMs are plentiful in the city. Plan for cash for markets and rural areas.<\/p>\n

What electrical sockets are used?<\/h3>\n

The network is 220 V with standard European-type sockets. Travellers coming from France, Switzerland or Belgium do not need an adapter.<\/p>\n

Is French or English spoken in Armenia?<\/h3>\n

The official language is Armenian. Russian remains very widespread, English is progressing rapidly among young people, and French is understood by part of the population. All our travellers are accompanied by French-speaking guides (or English, German, Italian, Spanish-speaking) whom we select and train ourselves.<\/p>\n

Is there mobile network and Internet?<\/h3>\n

The 4G network covers almost the entire country. Local SIM cards at very attractive rates are available on arrival at Zvartnots Airport and at operators’ shops in the city.<\/p>\n

What should I wear to visit the monasteries?<\/h3>\n

In churches and monasteries, shoulders and knees must be covered, for women and men alike. Shawls are generally available at the entrance of the main sites.<\/p>\n

Is Mount Ararat located in Armenia?<\/h3>\n

No. Mount Ararat (5,165 m), the Armenian national symbol, is today located in Turkish territory. It nonetheless dominates the Yerevan skyline on clear days, and the best viewpoints are indeed in Armenia, notably at Khor Virap Monastery.<\/p>\n

How many days should I plan to discover Armenia?<\/h3>\n

We recommend 7 to 10 days for a first trip covering Yerevan and the major sites (Garni, Geghard, Lake Sevan, Dilijan, wine valleys). A 4 to 5-day city break in Yerevan and its surroundings is also a fine gateway. For an Armenia-Georgia combination, allow 12 to 15 days.<\/p>\n
